Portage Central Soccer
Andrew Rice has been head coach of the Portage Central High School Mustangs Men's Soccer Team since the Fall of 2015. He has a NSCAA National Diploma and a USSF E License. Rice is also an alumni of Portage Central High School. After graduating from Portage Central, Rice began developing his coaching skills with the Portage Soccer Club. Prior to taking over the men's program, he coached for years with Portage Soccer Club and took on an assistant coaching position with the Portage Central High School Women's Soccer Program. He worked as the assistant coach for the Lady Mustangs from 2008 through 2014; winning a girls state title, 4 final-four appearances, 5 Conference, 6 District and 4 Regional Championships with the Mustangs. He also helped out as an assistant with the men's program from 2008 to 2011.
As a player at Portage Central, Rice was a stand out. He was a four-year varsity starter for the Mustangs. In his Junior and Senior high school years Rice captained the Mustangs and played side-by-side with the likes of Eric Alexander, who has played in the MLS with the Montreal Impact, Houston Dynamo, FC Cincinnati, and FC Dallas. In his Junior year Rice was recognized as he was selected to the All Conference 1st Team, All District Team, All-Regional Team and All-State Honorable Mention. In his Senior year he was selected to the All-Conference 1st Team, and All-District Team.
Will Rungaitis has been JV head coach of the Portage Central High School Mustangs since 2015 and maintains a USSF E License. He comes to the Mustangs program after working as JV head coach for Gull Lake in 2014.
Like Coach Rice, Rungaitis is also an alumni of Portage Central where he played varsity soccer for the Mustangs his Junior and Senior year. After graduating from Portage Central, Rungaitis began working with Kingdom in 2012 doing year round training and coaching. Since this time he has coached a variety of programs and age levels, including U8 Academy, U9 and U10 select teams, U-11 Boys Directors Academy, U-11 MSDSL Girls team, and a Kingdom's U10 Super-Y team.
What many people don't realize is Coach Magg came over to the US from Germany in 1998.
He was the top assistant coach at Plainwell High School where he helped lead the women's program to a 38-16-5 record, a conference championship, a district championship, and a trip to the Regional Finals. In a tough Wolverine Conference he has helped lead them to an impressive 17-4-1 overall record. In the spring of 2016 Magg transitioned to Division 2 Powerhouse Richland Gull Lake as the top assistant coach. Gull Lake finished 19-3-0 while winning a SMAC conference championship, and a district championship.
Coach Magg has also coached at Kalamazoo Central having help coached the girls program in 2012. On the boys side Coach Magg helped lead the boys program to its highest win total in over a decade in 2011 and again in 2013. They made the SMAC Conference playoffs three straight years starting in 2011 and finishing runner-up in the league and conference tournament in 2013. He helped bring the program to their first appearance in a championship game since 2001. Overall they held a 38-24-3 record.
This is Jack’s first year as an assistant coach under Coach Rice. Jack played for Portage Central from 2012-2015. In addition, he played for Midwest United, Michigan’s 98 ODP Team and Super Y Nationals with ‘98 Kalamazoo Kingdom. He’s excited to be working with Coach Rice and giving back to the sport and the Portage Central program.
