Portage Central High School Men's Soccer
PC Varsity's first District matchup will be on October 15th or 16th. They will face the winner of Jackson and Portage Northern.
Due to the EEE virus concerns, the three remaining local conference game times have been moved up an hour. JV will play at 4pm and Varsity will play at 5:30pm at home on September 24th and October 1st, as well as at Gull Lake on September 28th .
The varsity boys played strong, keeping the Portage Derby Trophy at PC, finishing with a 2-1 win. The JV boys dropped a tough one, 1-0.
September 4th was the inaugural game at the new Mustang Field! Both Varsity and JV boys beat the Kalamazoo Central squads. JV started off with a 4-0 shutout. Varsity was knotted 0-0 at halftime but pulled out a 2-0 win. Both teams teams turned around and played Niles the next day, and dominated. JV pulled out a 5-0 win while Varsity ended with a solid 4-0 win. The boys head to Troy on Saturday for a tough matchup against the #2 ranked team in the state, Detroit Catholic Central.
Final: The Varsity boys start out the SMAC Conference schedule with a 1-1 tie against Loy Norrix while the JV posted a 5-1 win!! Next up, big conference rival match at Mattawan next Wednesday night!!

The boys ended an excellent 2017 season ranked third in the state. They went down at the hands of the 2016 State Champions, East Kentwood, in the Regional Final game. Their regional semi-final game was an instant-classic in crazy Michigan weather. The win came in overtime against Brighton, who had just came off a big win against Ann Arbor Skyline (at the time, ranked #1 in the state).
The first season rankings that came out on Sept 4th had the boys ranked 11th in D1. They have since beat the defending state champs who were ranked #1.
The Varsity squad started the regular season off with two wins. A 1-0 win over Walled Lake Central and a 3-1 victory over Holland. The JV team had a 1-0 win against Walled Lake Central and were defeated in their afternoon game against Holland, 0-4.
The JV will play at New Buffalo on Tuesday (Aug 22nd) and both squads will play at Plymouth on Friday (Aug 25th).
The boys knocked off Kalamazoo Central 1-0 tonight and advance to the District Semis against Okemos on Thursday afternoon at 3:30 in Okemos!!
This is a rematch of last years District Semi-Final where Okemos knocked the boys out of the State Tournament!!

The Varsity beat Mattawan 2-0 while the JV tied 0-0!!
The boys move along to the SMAC Conference Finals Tuesday night at Portage Northern!! They will face their across-town rival in rematch of the Portage Derby, which ended in a draw during the regular season match. It should be a good one! Stop by PN Tuesday night and support your Mustangs!
In the 6th annual Portage Derby the Varsity boys were down by a goal early in the match against the #1 ranked team in the state. They came back to even it up in the second half. After 100 total minutes of grit, the rivalry ended in a tie!! Great result for the boys and the resiliency speaks for itself!!
Portage Central's own, Nick Kuppler, was recognized by a fan poll and the local media as the preferred high school keeper in the area to be in net for a game-deciding penalty kick.
The Varsity boys remained knotted with St. Joseph through regulation and two extra periods, ending with a 0-0 draw.
The JV boys bested the St. Joseph JV squad with a 2-0 win.
The boys will spend the week prepping for the big rival game against Portage Northern on the 20th, THE PORTAGE DERBY!
The Varsity tied East Kentwood 1-1 and the JV lost 4-1!! A great result for the Varsity boys against another ranked MIHSSCA team!!
Next up is St Joe tomorrow night at home in a huge SMAC Divisional match up!! Come out and support the boys!!
The Varsity beat Loy Norrix 2-1 and the JV won 2-0!! With a depleted Varsity roster the boys competed all week and finished 2-0-1!!
The JV team capped the week with its third straight victory.
Next up is on the road against Grand Rapids powerhouse East Kentwood on Monday night!

The Varsity boys have been answering the call with a depleted line up of injuries and only 2 subs coming off the bench!
The JV boys controlled every aspect of the game with an 8-0 mercy-rule win, ending the game 10 minutes early.
The Varsity tied Kalamazoo Central 1-1 and the JV won 5-2!!
The varsity boys started off slow but picked it up in the 2nd half. It was great to see them face adversity. While playing shorthanded, they were able to tie the game up in the final minutes!!

The JV went 1-0-1 with a win in the first match against Lowell and a hard fought draw against Zeeland East in the second game!!
Lots of work to be put in but nothing better than kicking off the fall high school soccer season!!
